Meet Carmen

Meet Carmen, a Friend at FriendsPDX.

Hi my name is Carmen Benoit and I am a professional mentor. I'm originally from Newark, New Jersey but have lived in Beaverton almost my whole life. I am half white and half Haitian. Haiti was the first ever nation to establish independence through slave revolt, and being Afro-Haitian has shaped a lot of who I am as a person. I try to embody the strength and tenacity of my people every day! And remember Black history month is every month!

February is Black History Month. FriendsPDX fully acknowledges that Black history is more than a month, as Carmen points out, it should be every month! Within our program, we have year-round cultural activities and programming for the FriendsPDX community to embrace, learn, and love their identity.
