Staff: Abel Hammer

Abel (he/him) hails from Winston-Salem, North Carolina and is new to the West Coast! A lifelong visual artist, he attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, studying production design for entertainment, before pivoting into education and community work, later becoming a visual arts teacher at a K-8 school. He is excited to continue working with youth and families, and appreciates FriendsPDX for their promise of well-rounded and long-term unconditional commitment to youth of all ages.

When he's not Friend-ing, Abel continues his varied artistic practice, especially in painting and fiber arts. He also loves to read poetry, go to the river, or get in a solid workout. He is having so much fun exploring the city; tell him some cool places to check out!
