About Donating to Friends

Friends of the Children–Portland has been successful in breaking the cycles of generational poverty for 27 years. We support children born into poverty, that are at risk of dropping out of school, substance abuse, incarceration and teen parenting. They are selected in kindergarten through a rigorous, eight-week evaluation process and paired with a full-time, salaried, professional mentor until graduation. 12+ years, no matter what. These mentors are carefully selected and trained to become highly skilled in working with youth who have experienced trauma. We are committed to our youth for the long term. This is where the magic happens. It is this persistent commitment that makes the difference in building lasting trust and change. We are relentless, so our youth can be resilient.

Vehicle Donations

We partner with Volunteers of America Oregon, to accept donations of most cars, trucks, SUVs, RVs, boats, motorcycles, and trailers. This program allows a donor to donate a vehicle to Volunteers of America (VOA), and 60 percent of the proceeds benefit Friends of the Children.

Vehicles must be complete (tires, motor, driveline and transmission). They do not have to be running. The vehicle must be within the VOA towing area, which includes all cities located on the I-5 corridor from Portland to Ashland.

If you are interested in donating your vehicle, please complete this form and be sure to select Friends of the Children as the beneficiary. Contact us if you have any questions or need assistance.

Friends of the Children–Portland is proud to report that every $1 invested in our preventative model returns over $7 to the community due to our direct impact on program graduates. Rest assured that your gift will make a significant difference in the life of a child.
