Grand Opening of the Friends of the Children National Center of Excellence and Portland Albina Campus
On September 30th, Friends of the Children unveiled our brand new remodeled building named the Duncan & Cindy Campbell National Center of Excellence and Portland Albina Campus after nearly two years of construction.
Named for the Friends of the Children’s founders, the Center is a best-in-class, worldwide destination to:
1) advance the field of professional youth mentoring
2) bring together thought leaders to solve some of youth’s biggest challenges including foster care, juvenile justice, literacy, higher ed, and more, and
3) serve as a hub for programming, training, and technical assistance for the Portland Chapter
Located in the historic Albina neighborhood, the renovation of this 95-year old building represents a commitment to being part of the revitalization of this neighborhood and our long-term investment in Portland youth.

This building was designed with youth in mind, including a slide, a dedicated homework space, and a youth designed and painted mural in our gym. Portland youth worked on this mural in partnership with another local nonprofit in Portland, Wonderfolk, and artist Salomée Souag.
More than two-dozen foundations and private donors supported the center, including founding funders Gary and Christine Rood, who have given $5 million toward its creation.
Others who have donated $1 million or more to the new center include the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund, Alan Guffey & Cynthia King-Guffey, and the Marcia H. Randall Foundation. Additional supporters include Greg and Michele Goodwin, Tykeson Family Foundation, Duncan and Cindy Campbell, Henry Lea Hillman, Jr. Foundation, the Jack Lundeen Fund of Oregon Community Foundation, the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation, the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund, the Quest Foundation, The Oregon Community Foundation, Walsh Construction Co., the Wilkins Family Fund of Oregon Community Foundation, the Windermere Foundation, and the Boards of Directors of Friends of the Children - National and Friends of the Children - Portland.
